Well, I know – this is not directly Internet marketing related… but who cares? It’s all about being human and being emotional. And if someone offers to give us a free hug – would you say no? Many people have a hard time approaching others they don’t know yet. But here’s a guy, going around with a big sign which reads “Free hugs” – how cool is that?
At first, people seemed hesitant to react to his sign but… See for yourself what happens
on his MySpace Site he also had another video where his campaign was shown in “Good Morning America”…! I don’t know if it’s still there.
Please post your comments and let me know what you think about this… Should something like this be done more often? Or do you think this guy is just sick?
….
Dev. I really appreciated that. I needed it more than you will ever know. And YES we should have more of that, and there is NO WAY that that GUY is sick. He has the right idea and his HEART is in the right place, JUST LIKE YOURS IS, DEV.
Thanks Detlev,
That was just what the world needs right now. I am sorry I missed it on our Australian 60 minutes. But boy am I glad I got to see this.
I wonder how many of us would have gone up and given him a hug, I know I would have and a lot of my friends would have but I also know a lot of people who would have run a mile in the other direction.
I would suggest we all hug someone we know or don’t know for that matter and ask them to pass it on, you never know it just might catch on.
Love and Light
Colleen
Hi Detlev,
I think this guy is really cool. The world needs more people who have the courage to openly show their feeling and emotions to show that they are a person and not a machine. I like Internet marketers who are also willing to do this so I guess I like you, even though I have been on your list only a few days.
Detlev,
Nothing corny about kindness.
Well done, my friend.
John
Hi Detlev, It was kind of like fate that you wrote about hugs in your email that I received today. The Australian version of 60 minutes showed that story on the program last night. Of course, I went to have a look at the youtube.com site last night but I didn’t find the hugs video. So, thank you for putting it up on your blog.
Until next time, Fiona.
Hi Detlev,
Well done – this guy is not sick, he is probably the most normal. Nothing is more powerful than a hug.
I have friends, who hug (only a few) and today one of my hugging friends came visiting. When she left after giving me a big hug I felt so good the rest of the day.
Love Susanne
That gave me a warm fuzzy, and I think it lowered my high blood pressure. I feel really calm and relaxed.
Passed it along to friends.
Thanks!
Hey Detlev,
Yeah, an inspiring video indeed. We should really hug our loved ones more
Cheers,
kanG
I think it is a wonderful thing.I love to give hugs. They say a person needs 8 hugs a day,im sure alot of people don’t ever get a hug.wouldnt it be a nicer world if we could get one when we needed one.

I just discovered this entry on your blog today, via a link in an email you sent me yesterday. When I clicked on the link in your email, the YouTube page I landed on said: “This video has been removed at the request of copyright owner GMG Entertainment because its content was used without permission.”
Detlev, if you know how to contact “the free hugs guy,” perhaps he’d like to learn about helloWorld, an even more comprehensive video-based online social network. Monthly membership is as low as $10 (US) and that includes a HUGE password-protected video/media vault. For a quick video overview about helloWorld, go to www.geocities.com/visitbyvideo/hwoverview.htm .
Cheers!

Hi Biz,
there’s another link in my article:
www.myspace.com/freehugscampaign
If you’re visiting that page, you will find out a lot more details about him and the video on that page is still working, even though it’s hosted on YouTube, too! Seems that GMG Entertainment, whatever company that might be, didn’t catch up to it.
Detlev
I’d like to take this time to send out a big fat spiritual hug to everyone on the planet.
May love bless us all!
Peace!

I didn’t see the 60 Minutes story as I never watch commercial TV and I’ve not watched the video (nothing has ever inspired me – I’m too logical) but I do know that I’ve not had a hug for 30 years and I seriously doubt that I’ll ever have one again.
What difference does it make?
