Gary Halbert is dead

General, Internet Marketing

Gary Halbert - Direct Marketer and CopywriterThis is the sad truth…I heard about it a little earlier this week via Ed Dale’s Blog. And although I never met Gary Halbert personally, I feel saddened about his death. It seems that all the good marketers are dying too soon – although he was much older than Internet pioneer Corey Rudl, president of the Internet Marketing Center who passed away in 2005 at age 34 because of a fatal car crash on a race track.

Gary Halbert was one of the best direct marketers on the planet as well as probably the best copywriter of all times.

The way I got in touch with his work was through his website at www.thegaryhalbertletter.com/ where he was publishing his newsletters which, more often than not, were rants about the whole Internet marketing industry. But even more importantly, he freely shared his knowledge and ideas about copywriting and marketing in general.

It seems that his domain will expire in about 3 weeks and I don’t know if there’s someone who will make sure the content, all of his newsletters, will stay there. So if you want to read what Gary had got to share, you better go to his website soon. Personally, I downloaded all of his issues for offline viewing to be on the safe side. I intend to read about 1 a day as they are quite long (most would be around 20 pages if printed out…) and I’d suggest you do the same.

Take care,

Detlev

Detlev, it is indeed sad to lose such a great man. As for his domain, on his website there is now a letter from a representative of the family that states his 2 sons will keep the site going (so I guess they’re renewing the domain?) and will keep all his archives intact. Which is good news to many. I actually had never heard of Gary before this morning when I read about him on MySpace. But after reading a couple of his letters, I’m enthralled and will be paying more attention to his life’s work.

    Hi Darren,

Thanks for your comment. It’s great to hear that Gary’s site will be taken care of. I hadn’t heard about it, yet.
